Description

Outreach is a Christian community service organization providing counseling, case management, youth development, older adult service, and community development. For 50 years, Outreach has changed the lives of thousands of individuals, children, youth, and families in DuPage County, IL, and we are seeking to hire a diverse staff of highly competent professional employees to pursue Outreach's mission to restore hope and provide opportunities for people to become all that God intends them to be.

Outreach is hiring a Full-time High School Instructor at Outreach Carol Stream to assess and instruct a cohort of at-risk high school students from southeast Carol Stream during the academic year and summer program.

Responsibilities:

  • The High School Instructor has some responsibility for student recruitment, intakes, and individual meetings with students to set goals and provide accountability and support.
  • The High School Instructor will facilitate life skills instruction, special activities, and God Time and provide some leadership for those aspects of the program.
  • The High School Instructor will provide academic tutoring as needed and support the tutoring part of the program.
  • The High School Instructor will maintain ongoing communication with community partners (local schools and employment work sites) and parents; procure worksites; provide job coaching, job instruction, and transportation; facilitate some program fundraisers; collect and input data; and generate reports.
  • The High School Instructor is a member of the high school staff team and reports to the High School and College Programs Director.
  • Schedule: Academic year: Mon. & Fri. from 9:00 am – 5:30 pm, Tues., Wed. & Thurs from 12:15 pm - 8:45 pm. Summer: Monday – Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Travel: spring break college tour out of state.

Requirement

Qualifications:   

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, education, youth development, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years experience with high school students.
  • Previous social work, education, or guidance counseling experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and tutor high school level academics, especially English.
  • A passion for resourcing and guiding high school students and the ability to develop effective relationships with high school students, parents, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of students from low-income situations, high-risk families, and culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • A valid driver's license, good driving record, and reliable transportation.
  • A Commitment to Outreach's Statement of Mission & Faith.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English or Burmese/English) preferred.
